SWOT analysis: what it is and why your business needs it.

To develop a successful business, it is important not only to make a business plan, create a website and identify the target audience. One of the key components of success is a basic understanding of how well your company is performing compared to your competitors.

To determine this, experienced entrepreneurs use SWOT analysis, a strategy that helps identify business strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities and potential threats.
What is SWOT analysis?
SWOT is an acronym for four English words: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. SWOT analysis is a strategy that allows you to assess the effectiveness and viability of your business, as well as the business of competitors through the prism of these four concepts.
SWOT analysis of the company helps to make important business decisions: for example, changing the vector of the company's development, rebranding or increased emphasis on a certain category of products.

Strengths and weaknesses reflect the internal state of the company: reputation, product quality, team efficiency, etc. Depending on the company's actions, these indicators can change for better or worse - so it is especially important to have a clear picture of what is happening in order to respond quickly to emerging challenges.
Opportunities and threats are related to external factors: competitors, market trends, cost of materials, etc. You cannot control them - but you can adapt the company's strategy to minimize losses or maximize benefits.

Why does a company need SWOT analysis?

SWOT analysis is an opportunity to see the bigger picture of your business and form a clear and effective action plan. In addition, it allows you to see challenges and opportunities that you do not think about during routine business management.

This, in turn, will allow you to stand out from the competition and better adapt to the changing demands of the industry.

How to use SWOT analysis
to improve your business?

Now that the SWOT analysis of the enterprise is ready, it is time to develop a strategy. This can be done in five steps:
  • Show your SWOT analysis to employees and co-owners of the business and collect feedback.
  • Discuss the action plan with colleagues so that everyone clearly understands their area of responsibility and the actions that are required of them.
  • Determine which parts of the plan need to be started immediately and which can wait. We advise you to pay attention to threats first.
  • Make a plan in which you use the strengths of the company to neutralize the weaknesses, as well as use new opportunities to avoid potential threats. All this can be part of your business plan.
  • Turn the plan into action. Important - since the market does not stand still, SWOT analysis is best done every few months. This way you will see how effective the strategy you have developed has been and whether you need to make adjustments to it.
  • Approach business development in a comprehensive manner, use modern methods of analysis and promotion, and consult experts: it is always better to delegate the business to the pros than to look for solutions on your own by trial and error.
